The Enduring Legacy of the Regiment.
On four different occasions, the United States has called upon the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment to answer the call for freedom in Iraq, as it has since 1846. Beginning with the valiant push north into Baghdad and on into Al Anbar in 2003 in Operation Iraq Freedom I (OIF), the great triumph at Tal Afar in 2005 in OIF III, the superb achievements in Mosul and Diyala in 2007 in OIF V and great accomplishments at Babil, Diwaniyah and Wasit in 2010 in Operation New Dawn (OND), the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen have answered that call with courage, success, and honor.
Each of these deployments of the Army's only Armored Cavalry Regiment continued the tradition of the Regiment's ability to remain inherently flexible and adaptable in the face of seemingly overwhelming obstacles. Throughout these four deployments over one hundred Heroes of the Regiment have paid the ultimate price for freedom; a fact that our Commanders, NCO's, Families and fellow Troopers will never forget. This print honors their sacrifice along with that of all the Soldiers and Families who have sacrificed so much while enduring eight years of war. The Regiment was here in the beginning and will be here in the end.
The print captures an iconic scene from each deployment including by a sampling of some of the major combat platforms used in each deployment, fighting across the Iraqi desert. For OIF I the scene reflect Troopers entering a house to clear it along a street in Al Anbar Provence. For OIF III the scene depicts Troopers patrolling the streets of Tal Afar with a Bradley in the background. In OIF V the scene depicts the iconic domes of the new Mosque in the center of Mosul with a Brave Rifles Trooper in the foreground. In OND the scene depicts Brave Rifles Troopers and Iraq Security Forces on patrol in Babil province. In the center is a depiction of the four Regimental Commanders reminiscencing about our Fallen Heroes of the Regiment in front of the 3d ACR Memorial at Fort Hood, Texas. This scene at the memorial reminds us all that it is the service and valor of each individual Brave Rifles Trooper, which makes our Regiment the storied, proud unit that it is today, and has been for over 165 years. The noble performance and sacrifice of our Brave Rifles Troopers in Iraq is the Enduring Legacy of the Regiment of Mounted Rifleman.
